Can a former musical theater dork face down her middle school demons before the building is razed to the ground?

"Ms. Lipman moves wonderfully across the boards, has an excellent ear for dialogue, a strong sense of humor and comedy, as both scribe and thespian... like Mr. Palmenteri of 'A Bronx Tale' fame, [she] portrays all the characters with grace, ease, simplicity, and authenticity." -- ArtistWRITES

A GIRL NAMED JAKE

My first name really is Jake; I'm named after my grandfather. I tell stories that are thought-provoking, funny, and feminist.

Undergrad, I studied at the all-female Smith College, abroad at the Sorbonne, and came to NYC to get my MFA at the Actors Studio Drama School at the New School.

Since 2006, I've run my own production company, Tongue in Cheek Productions (TIC) to produce and create thought-provoking comedies. For TIC, I wear many hats -- performer, producer, director, playwright (not always at the same time -- however I did for the DC run of Shut Up Martha!).

In my downtime, I love to swim, play the piano, and cartoon.

WHAT I'VE BEEN UP TO

  • Performing my one-woman show Learning Curves in various venues and festivals around the U.S. and Canada
  • March 2025 staged reading, Shut Up Martha directed by Clare Solly
  • August 2023: featured in The Westmore News, "The Mouth of the South: Saving Martha Mitchell's Story"
  • July 2023: premiered one act Shut Up Martha in the DC Fringe, named "Best of Fest" by DC Theater Arts
  • June 2022: joined Directors Lab North in Toronto
  • Podcast interviews with Artistic Pursuit, Comfort Measures, Go See a Show! and designed the art for Guilt Free Features

Fun fact: that's me and William Douglas Turner, who played John Mitchell in Shut Up Martha
