LEARNING CURVES
Over the course of 2024, I workshopped a new, autobiographical solo show called Learning Curves, through Matt Hoverman's Go-Solo workshop.
The piece is about an invitation to a reunion at my middle school, and how I grappled with revisiting my awkward coming of age in the shadow of Anita Hill. Can a perky, middle-aged rule follower once and for all face down her middle school demons before the building is razed to the ground? I've lined up a premiere in North Carolina in August, and am actively applying to festivals and performance venues. More about those performances here! |
A GIRL NAMED JAKE
My first name really is Jake; I'm named after my grandfather. I tell stories that are centered on women and that are equally thought-provoking and funny.
Undergrad, I studied at the all-female Smith College, abroad at the Sorbonne, and came to NYC to get my MFA at the Actors Studio Drama School at the New School. Since 2006, I've run my own production company, Tongue in Cheek Productions (TIC) to produce and create thought-provoking comedies. For TIC, I wear many hats -- performer, producer, director, playwright (not always at the same time -- however I did for the DC run of Shut Up Martha!). In my downtime, I love to swim, play the piano, and cartoon. |

Fun fact: that's me and William Douglas Turner, who played John Mitchell in Shut Up Martha |
